Its looks like complexity of nature is only illusion. Nature is based on countless, very simple rules still overlapping and acting on many levels and scales. Some of them have major (for our senses) effects and another are very subtle but in fact all of them are equally important and all of them still affects each other. Results cumulates on each level so that even small change of conditions in one point of natural process can cause very big change on another point. Our analytic minds are trying to follow this or that path of natural process looking for patterns, symmetries and causal relationships but there are too many of them and they are intertwined. Its confusing us. For this reason we cannot value nature qualitatively, we can do it only aesthetically. This new category brings peace to our minds, exempt of tracking to many paths, processes and dependencies.

Lets try to imitate this process, lets use very simple rules and algorithms and let them affect one another on many levels. Lets generate sound from them in almost random way, without undue aesthetic choices. Its impossible being human, but lets try. Then leave this system of feedbacks to itself, dont try to control it. Then come and look at the effect. Lets marvel like a child taking a leaf to hand, use your sense of grotesque. Its a pop music! Never use your existing associations and references. Its impossible, but lets try.

This album was about putting everything on the table. It was about not thinking about anything, but feeling. To get rid of a whole past that doesn’t suit the present anymore. It was about not judging any ideas that come through as good or bad, but to accept them and to go with the flow of creativity. To not worry about perfection in terms of music or life because the truth is that the only perfection is to fully accept that we are imperfect, and that in itself is the perfect way to be.

“Sorry that this post is in English, but I can barely speak German let alone write it. Anyway, I was wondering if someone could post a list of generic German phrases that would be useful for me to memorize. I don’t need things like “where is the bathroom” and “what is my hotel room number”, as I’m staying with family. What I’d prefer are “Yes, I agree” or “My favorite movie is…”.
Thank you so much!”

“Hi !

Here’s a simple list :

Hi / Hello / How are you ? : Hey, wie geht’s ?
I don’t know : (Ich habe) keine Ahnung (litt : I have no clue)
My favorite … is XY : Mein liebelings… ist XY
EX : My favorite movie is Pokémon => Mein liebelingsfilm ist Pokémon. ;p

I’m glad I’ve met you : Gern Sie kennen zu lernen. (formal)
I love you ( to a family relative) : Ich habe dich gern.”

“Music from the film PRESENCE” is the score for an independent/cult science fiction film which has premiered in June 2009 at the Seattle True Independent Film Festival (STIFF) in Seattle, Washington, USA. The film is heavily influenced by Jean-Luc Godard’s Alphaville, Werner Herzog’s Wild Blue Yonder, and the films of David Lynch. It was shot in downtown Los Angeles, CA, mostly at night. It uses music heavily, as well as public domain and stock footage from the U.S. National Archives in Washington, D.C. to tell its story.
As a film, PRESENCE is at once visually beautiful yet stark and unsettling, pairing long, elegant shots of downtown Los Angeles with bleak, startling footage of disasters, both real and fictional. When composing for the movie, I knew I had to provide a score that would blend seamlessly with the visual elements of the film to enhance the sense of acute loss and impending dread experienced by the film’s protagonist. The movie is at some moments frightening and horrific yet at others tender and nostalgic, so I worked with director Bryan Kramer to emulate those emotional shifts while creating a score that was consistent as a whole.
For inspiration, I looked to electronic music pioneers Louis and Bebe Barron’s score for the 1956 film Forbidden Planet, which blurs the line between music and sound effects. By composing music that was simultaneously repetitive and unpredictable, I hoped to invoke the familiar yet chaotic sounds of claxons, sirens, and alarms.
I used a variety of instruments, including mellotron, Moog and other analog synthesizers and VST emulations (for example, NineCows Cynthia, which emulates the EMS Synthi A), organ drones, vibraphone, heavily delayed drums, and electric guitar, in an attempt to create a score that is like the film itself, both synthetic and organic, both otherworldly and jarringly real.

OTHER MAJOR INFLUENCES ON THE SCORE: DJ Shadow, Glenn Branca, Sonic Youth, Erik Satie, Ennio Morricone, Goblin

Written, performed & produced by Dave Merson-Hess in a closet in Richmond, Virginia, a bedroom in New York City,
and on a train traveling between the two. Special thanks to Jessica Roberts for arrangement assistance on “Onomatopoeia”
and “Drive”, and for general moral support.

THANK YOU: Jessica Roberts, Justin Taber & Rose O’Leary, Max Stofle Anderson, Jeff Lee, The Dilley Family, Aris Blevins,
Jimmy Fusil, Tim Price, DJ Carl “Ratso” Russo, Tom @ 101 Music in North Beach at the corner of Grant & Green in
San Francisco, CA, John Morgan Mitchell, and three superstar VST Developers: Nikolaj Kyndby Holm @ Ninecows for Cynthia;
Aaron Rutledge @ Tweakbench for Tapeworm; and The Interruptor a.k.a Daniel F. Bosshard for his brilliant delay plugins.

Taren McCallan-Moore, a.k.a. MagicVan lives in Hackney, East London, where he practices from his home studio; “I approach my music in pretty much the same way that I approach my visual art…” He says. “…I’ll start with anything, something that I’ve been experimenting with, a dirge, a note, a melody, a sound and it all leads from there. There’s always something to shake off and I work best when stupefied by some painful muse, otherwise I’m really quite an inadequate musician I think. And I know, people have told me, that I can be frustrating to listen to. One friend thinks that my production is painfully unfair; proffering a hand of sweets only to pull away as the gift has been accepted. I’m just afraid of being pigeonholed even to the point of shooting myself in the foot because I’m terrified of my own mediocrity.” The art of Taren McCallan-Moore art can be found at: tarenvegas.blogspot.com

Even: ‘That’s the way freedom is, and we wouldn’t change it for a minute.’

KiN sings and plays guitar, Paul tinkers with a laptop and plays a synth, Colin plays bass and Howard bangs the drums.

“Peterloo Massacre seem almost conventional in their line-up of singer-guitarist, bassist, drummer and electronics man. Except that electronics man is Paul Green, controller of a synthetic orchestra of beautifully fluid keyboard sounds and laptop (as well as a rather excellent little tabletop LED display screen). And that singer is the remarkable KiN, a black stripe painted across her eyes and her voice a collision of cracked urban soul, atmospheric near-whispers and strange vibrations. As such, they’re reminiscent of the leading lights of the trip-hop movement inasmuch as they manage to sound both richly and pleasantly melodic and faintly menacing at the same time, sort of like being in a flotation tank with a stingray.”

One year ago, Philippe Baudouin (aka Monsieur Tympan – phonographer) and Alexandre Manzanares (photographer) have produced a sound and photographic documentary about rural world, available on CD, called “Sous les pieds, la terre” (which means “Under the feet, the land”). To realize this project, they have collected sounds and pictures of people and landscapes they’ve met on the road: old country people, kids in garden, sounds of agricultural tools, beauty of mountains… In September 2008, Philippe decided to put online 30 samples of the sounds he recorded and to collaborate with Headphonica to release on their netlabel. With this sound samples, everyone was invented to make his own remix! The idea was to propose people to appropriate these field-recordings and to make a subjective remix. Even if these different sounds come from a very little part of the world (Vaucluse, France), the 80 remixes we’ve received show us the universality of these ones. Here is the result sent by people from all over the world! Enjoy yourself!

DESCRIPTION BY PIT MALONE:

Dear listeners.
When my brother and I were playing together in a band in the past, fighting about the music often broke out. Mr. Brian tended to more noise. I tended to more music. Everybody defended his own interests violently. Today I spare him the physical pain and the humiliation. As a quit pro quo he accepts, that every artistical decision at the _PLATTENBOSS_UNDERTAKERS_ is made by me. For that I come up with all the music and lyrics. Mr. Brian playing the drums and Cleft playing the bass guitar maintain the guitar-pop-compositions with their conventionally play. A great achievement, considering that they regularly abandon established musical structures, seeing those rules as borderlines of artistical expression.
At the _PLATTENBOSS_UNDERTAKERS_ there are no escapades of sound, no experiments. To get to new music, I think it can be helpful to take pure and simple songs as a basis from time to time. After that, the big carving and pasting or maybe something completely different can come around.
But before, enjoy the _PLATTENBOSS_UNDERTAKERS_

yours
Pit Malone

REPLY BY MR.BRIAN:

who likes noise? I like noise! in addition, I like acoustic experiments, too. and because I was a long time of my life on music-detours, I surprised myself, when I appeared easily in a normal, but charming beautiful popband. perhaps I never received the chief position, because I was not a musician, but an artist. perhaps it was unnecessary for me to be a musician, because i like noise. perhaps I don´t need a chief position today, because I learned to play the drums. not very well, but nobody likes professionals. and pit is not so fastidious. anyhow not, if you do, what he says. enjoy.

yours
mr.Brian

CLEFT: RESPONSE:

once i was an unemployed longhaired bassguitarplayer with no future or any clue. then pit found me and i was allowed to play his fabulous tunes. he taught me well about music but i was an ungrateful disciple. i forsook him and tried to copy and paste his greatness.
and of course i failed.
now over 12 years later he gave me the chance to redeem myself. he never surrendered me.
hail to the pit and his mesmerizing voice! cleft will play his fingers dumb for you!

LAST WORDS BY PIT:

But if we listen to the variations in tempo just to the point more often than not, and if we hear the variations in sound-intensity for example, we have to recognize, that _PLATTENBOSS_UNDERTAKERS_ is made by dynamic, companionship and fraternity.
Thank you, brother, and thank you cleft for your play and your open words. And thank you two for your solidarity. An egocentric teardrop named happyness is rolling down my headphone-cable and dropping onto my keyboard, it is writing these words.

_PLATTENBOSS_UNDERTAKERS_ is always open for suggestions and feedback or any kind of comments, as long as you are not a shitty plattenboss.

Single «Lazy» from the young progressive band of GOSPROM from Kharkov (Ukraine) is modern variations on a theme acid-jazz and trip-hop. Certainly, all the vinyl which gives a surprisingly warm sound songs is underlaid, due to efforts of one of the best acid-jazz dj of Ukraine. Well and certainly instruments, returning a listener to the time of trip-hop 90th. GOSPROM had time to come forward on many festivals, both jazz and alternative. Words of cult poet Vladimir Mayakovski extraordinarily combine with music of GOSPROM and underline an unbelievable rhythm and dynamic quality of their songs. Probably, it is related to the identical orientation of social positions of musicians and avant-gardists 20th and 60th, which is expressly traced in every song. In the end dj’s improvisations in bonus track about the future, people and robots, original epilogue to the single «Lazy».

this album was recorded by using a typing computer keyboard as the sound-delivering device where each letter is represented by a distinct note.
At times, the nature of the revealed melody called for more of a strictly typist approach, while at others the individual tracks necessitated changes in pitch, melody, dynamics to avoid sounding sternly kinda typist.
The relation between typing machines and music keyboards fascinated me since I was a kid and this was a way of paying homage to this childhood fascination of mine.
Plus I had tons of things to type out while at the University and the arrhythmic nature of the sounds made while typing galvanised me into exploring the abovementioned relation.

Typists:Marijana Tanaskovic (tracks 2&27), Igor Jovanovic (all track except tracks2&27)

J.L. Knopf writes: No, ‘wow’ is defenitively not the miracle
ingredient that keeps a group of musicians with a totally different
past going for decades. On the contrary: the different cultures that
make you say ‘wow’ will only clash for a limited time to each
representative’s liking. Soon after only the memory remains and a
few recordings. ‘Wow’ boldly goes where no-one has gone before, to
borrow some famous words to describe what happens, and once it’s
gone you can never capture it again, another famous quote. But
‘wow’, what will they think of next? All music on ‘Some exercises in
provocation’ is extemporized. It combines the views of a rocking
guitarist, a classical flautist, a tubaplayer with brassband roots
and a jazz reedplayer on music which makes you say ‘wow’.
Alltogether eight Exercises in Provocation. To be followed by a
second volume with some more exercises in provocation. Wow…

“The trick is to” is a three stage adventure that is bridge together with field recordings that I have made while roaming around town on my bicycle.
Staring off in the sophisticated high class dinning in the wonderful ambiance inside the heart of the ghetto. Then, the after dinner stroll down a secluded beach off the beaten path just beside a four lane road. After that tiresome walk a intriguing intelligent conversation with the locals. At this time you can let your hair down and have some out door fun with the other town folk on the river front walk way in the heart of down town, where there’s people of all colors and nationality . All of this is broken apart by archival recordings which is finalized with a cute and whimsically damage night cap to complete your acoustical journey .
Mechanical clicks, micro sampling, analog D.I.Y. synthesizer sounds, field recordings and home brewed electronics are the medium of this twenty-four minute electronic manufactured audio puzzle. So the big question is, how do you put this “audio puzzle” together . Well you see , “The trick is to…….”

the piece Prisma II is a Omaggio to a Peruvian 60’s composer Enrique Pinilla, one of the pioners in electronic music in this country. he’s electronic pieces that he worked was charged of visual senses. i made this piece using old school techniques (analog recordings) mixed with sinthesis software.
and the last piece was recorded in a livesession with 2 american musician friends during their visiting for Chile in the 2007, we joined in a Krishna Temple in the city of Antofagasta (Chile) and made a nice concert, very intuitive and sensorial playing with delicate and disturbing sounds and changing emotional senses…

“I made this music by recording random stuff around my house and backyard and spent a few months editing the sounds to fit songs that I had written on guitar. While making the songs I was working in the warehouse of a drug store and when I look back on the songs they really remind me of that time. I didn’t intentionally make the songs to represent my job but thats what came out naturally. Maybe because I hated it so much. In order to balance out the industrial-ness of the warehouse I would take long hikes at different trails around my house. So I think this album represents well the industrial side, and the nature side mixed together.”

i make music i enjoy listening to and what i was going for with these recordings is exactly how they came out. i wanted a thriving life rhythm which would always be there but dissolve at points but still stand out like a heart beat which will undergo many many unexpected changes. this is partly the state of mind i was in while creating these songs. life (rhythm) will always exist, random things happen (personal legend), then the song (experience) ends, though the memory of the song and its rhythm lives on inside the listener. in one song i imitated the voices of birds in the morning in denver with a synthesizer and various effex, and in another some awesome noise shows heard, and also in another ideas talked about on nights when sleep was to far off to go to. the samples used were experienced simultaneously during the composition of the songs, specifically from video games/movies/conversation at restaurant.
so if you like these songs maybe, quite possibly maybe, share them!

Glory of architect, glory of painter, and sculptor, and bard, Living forever in temple and picture and statue and song, — Look how the world with the lights that they lit is illumined and starred, Brief was the flame of their life, but the lamps of their art burn long! Where is the Master of Music, and how has he vanished away? Where is the work that he wrought with his wonderful art in the air? Gone, — it is gone like the glow on the cloud at the close of the day! The Master has finished his work, and the glory of music is — where? Once, at the wave of his wand, all the billows of musical sound Followed his will, as the sea was ruled by the prophet of old: Now that his hand is relaxed, and his rod has dropped to the ground, Silent and dark are the shores where the marvellous harmonies rolled! Nay, but not silent the hearts that were filled by that life-giving sea; Deeper and purer forever the tides of their being will roll, Grateful and joyful, O Master, because they have listened to thee, The glory of music endures in the depths of the human soul
