Marcel Pequel – From One To Nine

I don’t have any conecption while making my music. I just simply make the music that I enjoy, and that wasn’t made by anybody else before. In my tracks I can’t see any images, but only I can feel some kind of emotions, for example nostalgy, sadness, fear, hope etc. Because of reasons above I didn’t named my tracks, but just numbered them, so every listener of my music can make his own opinion about every single track (not suppose to feel something because of some title of track). The order of tracks is important, and it seems to me it should be heard in order from 1 to 9. I numbered the tracks after I made them. While making music I didn’t use any paper . I’m making my music on electronic instruments, connected with computers, and by computer software I’m storing all I’ve made, and then I’m making sometimes some corrections.

“When talking about music with people, for saying things like “this beat is taken from …” i often get replys like: “yeah maybe, but i like it anyways.” If there wouldn’t be these “but, anyways” i’d be fine with it. We’re all stuck in the 18th century mentally. In the Middle Ages “componere” still had the original meaning of “to enclose”. It was taken for granted to derive new chorales from older ones. Usually parts of such compounds were composed but not completely new works. Whole works were crafted (=facere) which is a facile idea of mechanic humility, something we should care about.”

The Plastic Jazz Orchestra was formed by Bernd Burnson in late 2006 as an ensemble electronique for modern music. Tragically Bernd Burnson passed away in summer 2007 and left behind a bunch of young people determined to create something completely different, something new in terms of musical expression. So the tracks from ’39°’ by The Plastic Jazz Orchestra had never been compositions in their origins but handcrafted pieces of what we call music.

“I’m making music, bringing its ideas from the literature. While studying world literature I encountered the amazing secret of author’s techniques for readers passion for artistic reality of the literature. Not paying attention for the actual story of this or that literature composition, I’m focusing my mind on the mechanism of verbally-shaped entertainment of the reader.

It’s not a secret that it’s all about the dynamics of the syllable or in other words in the images series. I’m trying to move this dynamic to music from the literature. I’m building images of my tracks in coordination with schemes I learned in books of great authors. That is how I’m making the picure of artistic colors on the fabric of sound.”

My name is Jared C. Balogh and I am from Bethlehem, PA U.S.A. I consider myself a multi-media artist (musician, composer, artists, and video maker). The album I am submitting is called “Detaching Realities Vol. 2″. Volume 1 was released on the net label Surrism-Phonoethics (surrism.phonoethics.com) on January 25th, 2011 and it is also featured on the F.M.A. (Free Music Archives).

“Detaching Realities” is a series of compositional jazz interpretation of when life has a intense surreal/abstract feel of being detached from reality during and post panic attacks, anxiety attacks, obsessive/compulsive, Bi-polar and depression disorders. The opposite end of emotional spectrums of being not being balanced: happy/sad, nervous/calm, hyperactive/lethargic, angry/calm, weird, quirky, non-sense etc.

this is music that was born out of euphoric dreams, and frustrating realities.Coming from a land where Monotonous hums lumber around like sleepy giants through empty avenues; on the edge of sleep, all that keeps them awake are the uncontrollable outbursts coming from the toothless mouths hiding in the palms of their hands, when they feel sister sleep tugging at their eyelids they cover their ears with their hands and let the mouths lull them to wakefulness.
This is music that was made for the sheer joy of it, practically out of necessity…….
Drawing inspiration from most every facet of my waking/sleeping life.
Life, through my filter, put to music.
Beautiful drones, harsh pings and snaps
in-eloquent blithering, fluid expression,
accidental grace, and premeditated movements.
It scared me…..
It was that point I thought to myself “perhaps i should give others a chance to listen..”
and so was born

Everything is the same. All is well. I improvise on the doorstep, in the woods, on the field. Music comes out of the car radio, from the ICE seat, from the computer to the I-pod, the TV, mobile phones, the street, the room next door and my guitar. Fragments of my soul. Or yours? Random is a uniformly active principle. The butterfly principle. No principle.
Summerfugl’s your Facebook name, your idea, your club. I love that name, not knowing what it means. Wikipedia tells you: Sommerfugl Danish. For butterfly. Oh yeah!

Reconsider your histories. We live in an age of holocaust deniers and the Da Vinci Code, the information age has become the age of fabricating the past. Reality has become something malleable, flexible to the needs and whims of whomever happens to be recalling what has already been.

“Fulcanelli’s Shoes” is a response of sorts to this cultural phenomenon, by artist, composer and writer Ergo Phizmiz. Weaving a tale with one foot paddling in truth, and the other firmly embedded in lies, the piece presents a rewritten cultural history of the 20th century, presenting the relationship between the artistic and alchemical worlds at the beginning of the century as the catalyst for the creative, scientific and political revolutions of the proceeding times.

Discover how Jean Cocteau could travel in time; the secrets of the Large Hadron Collider; hear a genuine alchemical transmutation of base metal into gold; find out how anagrams built the universe; learn how to fix anything that is broken …..

Part lecture, part opera, part documentary, this is a uniquely 21st century artwork, bringing together strands of forms into a unified but scattershot form. Collaborating with film-maker Martha Moopette and performer Vulnavia Vanity, Ergo Phizmiz has created a truly experimental piece of anti-art, with the feel of something akin to being kicked in the face with a Ferrero Rocher boot.

It sounds at turns like floating through space, sitting on an iceberg travelling down a frozen river, wandering across an alien beach at night, walking around a tiny fog-enshrouded rocky lighthouse island, and travelling through the arctic on a dogsled. It is truly a work of art that can be listened to (or rather, slept to) again and again….

Its looks like complexity of nature is only illusion. Nature is based on countless, very simple rules still overlapping and acting on many levels and scales. Some of them have major (for our senses) effects and another are very subtle but in fact all of them are equally important and all of them still affects each other. Results cumulates on each level so that even small change of conditions in one point of natural process can cause very big change on another point. Our analytic minds are trying to follow this or that path of natural process looking for patterns, symmetries and causal relationships but there are too many of them and they are intertwined. Its confusing us. For this reason we cannot value nature qualitatively, we can do it only aesthetically. This new category brings peace to our minds, exempt of tracking to many paths, processes and dependencies.

Lets try to imitate this process, lets use very simple rules and algorithms and let them affect one another on many levels. Lets generate sound from them in almost random way, without undue aesthetic choices. Its impossible being human, but lets try. Then leave this system of feedbacks to itself, dont try to control it. Then come and look at the effect. Lets marvel like a child taking a leaf to hand, use your sense of grotesque. Its a pop music! Never use your existing associations and references. Its impossible, but lets try.

One afternoon Ergo Phizmiz finds himself lumbered into delivering a parcel to the house of legendary alchemist and necromancer Dr Johann Faustus who, since the events of some time ago for which he is renowned, has entered into a rather quieter life in a vast, labyrinthine house, with hundreds of lodgers running the gamut from artists, birds, bird-people, walking fictions, ventriloquists, a Cassowary, running chairs, walking gramophones, and myriad automata.

This enormous dream fable, told through speech, songs, collage and sound-design, is the result of over three years delving down various rabbit-holes, and features collaborations in a range of contexts with artists of many disciplines, including Jack Phoenix, Margita Zalite, Pete Um, Angela Valid, Bela Emerson, Martha Moopette, Amie Willingale, and Zenith Pitts.

In glorious radiophonic technicolour, it is a musical-comedy of disorientation and magick, somewhere between nightmare and the half-remembered childhood whimsy of an insomniac music-hall artiste.

Please note – “The Faust Cycle” is not, necessarily, suitable for sensitive ears at times, containing, as it does, some naughty words, some sexy references, and a healthy smattering of scatological excess.

Dave Merson Hess – Music from the film PRESENCE

“Music from the film PRESENCE” is the score for an independent/cult science fiction film which has premiered in June 2009 at the Seattle True Independent Film Festival (STIFF) in Seattle, Washington, USA. The film is heavily influenced by Jean-Luc Godard’s Alphaville, Werner Herzog’s Wild Blue Yonder, and the films of David Lynch. It was shot in downtown Los Angeles, CA, mostly at night. It uses music heavily, as well as public domain and stock footage from the U.S. National Archives in Washington, D.C. to tell its story.
As a film, PRESENCE is at once visually beautiful yet stark and unsettling, pairing long, elegant shots of downtown Los Angeles with bleak, startling footage of disasters, both real and fictional. When composing for the movie, I knew I had to provide a score that would blend seamlessly with the visual elements of the film to enhance the sense of acute loss and impending dread experienced by the film’s protagonist. The movie is at some moments frightening and horrific yet at others tender and nostalgic, so I worked with director Bryan Kramer to emulate those emotional shifts while creating a score that was consistent as a whole.
For inspiration, I looked to electronic music pioneers Louis and Bebe Barron’s score for the 1956 film Forbidden Planet, which blurs the line between music and sound effects. By composing music that was simultaneously repetitive and unpredictable, I hoped to invoke the familiar yet chaotic sounds of claxons, sirens, and alarms.
I used a variety of instruments, including mellotron, Moog and other analog synthesizers and VST emulations (for example, NineCows Cynthia, which emulates the EMS Synthi A), organ drones, vibraphone, heavily delayed drums, and electric guitar, in an attempt to create a score that is like the film itself, both synthetic and organic, both otherworldly and jarringly real.

“Peterloo Massacre seem almost conventional in their line-up of singer-guitarist, bassist, drummer and electronics man. Except that electronics man is Paul Green, controller of a synthetic orchestra of beautifully fluid keyboard sounds and laptop (as well as a rather excellent little tabletop LED display screen). And that singer is the remarkable KiN, a black stripe painted across her eyes and her voice a collision of cracked urban soul, atmospheric near-whispers and strange vibrations. As such, they’re reminiscent of the leading lights of the trip-hop movement inasmuch as they manage to sound both richly and pleasantly melodic and faintly menacing at the same time, sort of like being in a flotation tank with a stingray.”

Mu. is a solo percussion/concrete project dabbling in free jazz, noise and overall sonic dementia. most of the recordings made with one mic made out of cell phone parts and a ball of aluminum foil. improvised beats are the core with extra spice and frosting splattered on top. much thanks to my dog and THC for inspiration.

It Was Tremendously Scary is made by an old, cheap, abused and neglected synthesizer. Being given at some kid’s birthday party, the synth was played on for a few weeks, after which the kid found a new pastime and his mother put it away in a cold, dark basement. Angry and frustrated at its miserable destiny, the synth decided to haunt the family in its dreams by producing ghostly sounds in the middle of many nights. It was tremendously scary…

All the sounds, atmosphere and noise created on the basis of a single original audio recorded by Mateo Millones on Thursday, February 14, 2008, in Angolo, Mórrope, Lambayeque – Peru.

Session by the master healer Isidro Sandoval Alamo, he is 78 years old. The ceremony lasts from midnight until dawn. The songs are from the beginning of the session, after taking San Pedro, invoking to the different patron saints, virgins, and other spirits that help him during the session.

One year ago, Philippe Baudouin (aka Monsieur Tympan – phonographer) and Alexandre Manzanares (photographer) have produced a sound and photographic documentary about rural world, available on CD, called “Sous les pieds, la terre” (which means “Under the feet, the land”). To realize this project, they have collected sounds and pictures of people and landscapes they’ve met on the road: old country people, kids in garden, sounds of agricultural tools, beauty of mountains… In September 2008, Philippe decided to put online 30 samples of the sounds he recorded and to collaborate with Headphonica to release on their netlabel. With this sound samples, everyone was invented to make his own remix! The idea was to propose people to appropriate these field-recordings and to make a subjective remix. Even if these different sounds come from a very little part of the world (Vaucluse, France), the 80 remixes we’ve received show us the universality of these ones. Here is the result sent by people from all over the world! Enjoy yourself!

DESCRIPTION BY PIT MALONE:

Dear listeners.
When my brother and I were playing together in a band in the past, fighting about the music often broke out. Mr. Brian tended to more noise. I tended to more music. Everybody defended his own interests violently. Today I spare him the physical pain and the humiliation. As a quit pro quo he accepts, that every artistical decision at the _PLATTENBOSS_UNDERTAKERS_ is made by me. For that I come up with all the music and lyrics. Mr. Brian playing the drums and Cleft playing the bass guitar maintain the guitar-pop-compositions with their conventionally play. A great achievement, considering that they regularly abandon established musical structures, seeing those rules as borderlines of artistical expression.
At the _PLATTENBOSS_UNDERTAKERS_ there are no escapades of sound, no experiments. To get to new music, I think it can be helpful to take pure and simple songs as a basis from time to time. After that, the big carving and pasting or maybe something completely different can come around.
But before, enjoy the _PLATTENBOSS_UNDERTAKERS_

who likes noise? I like noise! in addition, I like acoustic experiments, too. and because I was a long time of my life on music-detours, I surprised myself, when I appeared easily in a normal, but charming beautiful popband. perhaps I never received the chief position, because I was not a musician, but an artist. perhaps it was unnecessary for me to be a musician, because i like noise. perhaps I don´t need a chief position today, because I learned to play the drums. not very well, but nobody likes professionals. and pit is not so fastidious. anyhow not, if you do, what he says. enjoy.

once i was an unemployed longhaired bassguitarplayer with no future or any clue. then pit found me and i was allowed to play his fabulous tunes. he taught me well about music but i was an ungrateful disciple. i forsook him and tried to copy and paste his greatness.  and of course i failed.  now over 12 years later he gave me the chance to redeem myself. he never surrendered me.  hail to the pit and his mesmerizing voice! cleft will play his fingers dumb for you!

Gosprom – Lazy

Single «Lazy» from the young progressive band of GOSPROM from Kharkov (Ukraine) is modern variations on a theme acid-jazz and trip-hop. Certainly, all the vinyl which gives a surprisingly warm sound songs is underlaid, due to efforts of one of the best acid-jazz dj of Ukraine. Well and certainly instruments, returning a listener to the time of trip-hop 90th. GOSPROM had time to come forward on many festivals, both jazz and alternative. Words of cult poet Vladimir Mayakovski extraordinarily combine with music of GOSPROM and underline an unbelievable rhythm and dynamic quality of their songs. Probably, it is related to the identical orientation of social positions of musicians and avant-gardists 20th and 60th, which is expressly traced in every song. In the end dj’s improvisations in bonus track about the future, people and robots, original epilogue to the single «Lazy».

this album was recorded by using a typing computer keyboard as the sound-delivering device where each letter is represented by a distinct note.
At times, the nature of the revealed melody called for more of a strictly typist approach, while at others the individual tracks necessitated changes in pitch,melody,dynamics to avoid sounding sternly kinda typist.
The relation between typing machines and music keyboards fascinated me since I was a kid and this was a way of paying homage to this childhood fascination of mine.
Plus I had tons of things to type out while at the University and the arrhythmic nature of the sounds made while typing galvanised me into exploring the abovementioned relation.
